## About

St Columba's Cathedral stands on the Corran Esplanade overlooking Oban Bay and the Isle of Mull. Designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (architect of Liverpool Cathedral and the iconic red telephone box) and built in pink Peterhead granite between 1932 and 1959, it serves as the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Argyll and the Isles. Dedicated to St Columba, the 6th-century Irish monk who brought Christianity to western Scotland from Iona, it remains a working cathedral and a much-loved landmark of the West Highlands.
