## About

St Luke's was built between 1811 and 1832 in the Gothic Revival style as the parish church of Liverpool's commercial district. On the night of 5 May 1941 an incendiary bomb destroyed the roof and interior during the Liverpool Blitz, but the city chose never to rebuild it — leaving the shell standing as a poignant memorial to civilian war losses. Today the gutted nave serves as a community garden, exhibition space and venue for outdoor cinema, concerts and remembrance events. The site remains owned by the Church of England, though the church itself is no longer used for regular Anglican worship.
