## About

St Martin's Church in Canterbury holds an unrivalled place in English Christian history: it was already a working church when St Augustine arrived from Rome in 597 AD to begin the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons, and was used by Queen Bertha, the Frankish Christian wife of King Æthelberht of Kent, for her private worship before that. Parts of the present building incorporate Roman brickwork, and it has been in continuous Christian use for more than 1,400 years — longer than any other church in the English-speaking world. Together with Canterbury Cathedral and St Augustine's Abbey it forms the Canterbury UNESCO World Heritage Site.
