About Bangor Cathedral
Bangor Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of St Deiniol, was founded around AD 525 by St Deiniol and is one of the oldest episcopal sees in Britain. The diocese of Bangor was established before the Welsh church came under Canterbury and is one of the four ancient Welsh dioceses. The current cathedral building dates largely from the 14th to 16th centuries with a major Victorian restoration by Sir George Gilbert Scott. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Bangor in the disestablished Church in Wales.
