About Church of Saint Matthew
Ely Cathedral — the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity in Ely, Cambridgeshire — is known as the 'Ship of the Fens' for its extraordinary appearance rising from the flat fenland landscape. The unique octagonal lantern tower, built after the original Norman tower collapsed in 1322, is an engineering marvel of medieval construction. Ely Cathedral was founded as a Benedictine monastery by St Etheldreda in 673 AD.

What is worship in this tradition usually like?
Anglican (Church of England) worship follows the rhythm of the Book of Common Prayer and Common Worship. Sunday services often range from a said early-morning Holy Communion to a main mid-morning Sung Eucharist or Morning Prayer, and many parishes hold Choral Evensong later in the day. Services blend set liturgy, hymns, Scripture readings and a sermon. Everyone is welcome, whether you are exploring faith or returning to church.
