St David's Cathedral — formally the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St David — is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of Cardiff, standing on Charles Street in the city centre. Built between 1882 and 1887 to designs by Pugin & Pugin, it became a cathedral when the Archdiocese of Cardiff was created in 1916. Badly damaged by wartime bombing in 1941, it was carefully restored and remains the mother church of Catholic south-east Wales, with a daily round of Mass open to all.
