About St George's Cathedral, Southwark

St George's Cathedral on Westminster Bridge Road is the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George — the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark and the seat of the Archbishop of Southwark. Designed by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin and opened in 1848, it was the first Catholic cathedral built in England after the Reformation. Gutted by wartime bombing, it was faithfully rebuilt and reopened in 1958. The cathedral has a celebrated musical tradition and welcomes everyone to its daily Masses.
